In one of the most complex humanitarian environments in modern history, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) proved that a new model for aid delivery is possible. Over just 4.5 months, GHF delivered 187 million free meals directly to civilians in Gaza – safely, efficiently, and without a single instance of looting or diversion.
Established as a temporary emergency response effort, GHF was designed to fill a critical gap in the global humanitarian system: to ensure food aid reached families, not armed groups. Guided by principles of neutrality, transparency, and accountability, GHF operated four secure distribution sites staffed by former U.S. service members, humanitarian professionals, and local Gazan workers, with partnership support from Samaritan’s Purse and others.
The result was an unprecedented operation that stabilized food access, restored dignity to aid seekers, and helped create the conditions that enabled the ceasefire and hostage release announced in late 2025.
GHF’s mission was always meant to be temporary but transformative, a demonstration that disciplined, civilian-centered humanitarian operations can outperform traditional systems even under the most difficult of circumstances. As the organization concludes its emergency operations, it leaves behind a proven model for how adaptability, local partnership, and accountability can redefine what effective humanitarian aid looks like in conflict zones.
“We built an alternative model that worked – one that saved lives and restored dignity to civilians in Gaza.” — John Acree, Executive Director, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
