The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) continued its operations today to provide vital food aid for the Palestinian people in Gaza. Below is an update on today’s operations:
BY THE NUMBERS
Distributed 8,640 boxes of aid today at one distribution site:
| Location | Truckloads | Boxes | Meals |
| SDS2 (Saudi Neighborhood) | 10 | 8,640 | 554,400 |
| TOTAL | 10 | 8,640 | 554,400 |
Approximately 78,107,122 meals distributed to date via roughly 1,321,624 boxes.
Yesterday, 28 trucks distributed more than 1.5 million meals across the SDS2 and SDS3 distribution sites to families in need. These numbers are reflected in the overall data.
COMMUNITY DISTRIBUTION AND COLLABORATION
Following our recent call for collaboration with local community leaders, we have received an overwhelming response from organizations and individuals seeking to help provide additional assistance to Palestinians in Gaza.
We are reviewing these requests as we receive them and will continue our outreach to additional local organizations in the meantime to help address this need.
SAFETY/SECURITY
Distributions at all sites ran smoothly today, ensuring the protection of all civilians present.
Below is GHF’s statement following the July 16 incident that occurred at the SDS3 Khan Yunis distribution site:
“We are heartbroken to confirm that 20 people died this morning in a tragic incident at SDS3 in Khan Younis. Our current understanding is that 19 of the victims were trampled and one was stabbed amid a chaotic and dangerous surge, driven by agitators in the crowd.
We have credible reason to believe that elements within the crowd – armed and affiliated with Hamas – deliberately fomented the unrest. For the first time since operations began, GHF personnel identified multiple firearms in the crowd, one of which was confiscated. An American worker was also threatened with a firearm by a member of the crowd during the incident.
This horrific event follows a deeply troubling pattern in recent days. False messages about aid site openings, including at SDS4 (Wadi Gaza) and the long-closed SDS1 (Tal Sultan), have circulated widely on Telegram and other platforms, fueling confusion, driving crowds to closed sites, and inciting disorder. Just last night, GHF issued a warning in Arabic via Facebook urging aid seekers to ignore these misleading messages, and to only refer to official GHF channels for updates on our operations.
We mourn the lives lost today, and we remain committed to providing humanitarian aid as safely and responsibly as possible. GHF exists to serve the people of Gaza with compassion and integrity, and our mission has never been more urgent or more challenged.”
STATEMENTS FROM GHF INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOHN ACREE
July 17, 2025
“We continue to mourn the lives lost during yesterday’s tragic incident at SDS3 in Khan Younis. We are working to learn more details about the violence and Hamas’ role in its instigation, and we are constantly improving our operations to maximize safety and security.
“Our team and local partners continue to operate with unmatched dedication under relentless conditions. Between today and yesterday, the GHF team distributed more than 2.1 million meals, bringing our total to more than 78 million meals delivered to families in Gaza.
“The demand for food aid continues to surpass the supply, and no single organization can meet this need alone. We are calling on the entire humanitarian community to work with us. Our mission is clear – to feed as many people as possible, for as long as it takes.”

INACCURATE NEWS REPORTING:
Several news organizations inaccurately reported that GHF workers used tear gas on civilians during yesterday’s incident at SDS3 in Khan Younis. At no point was tear gas deployed, nor were shots fired into the crowd. Limited use of pepper spray was deployed, only to safeguard additional loss of life. In at least one instance, an American worker physically entered the violent crowd to rescue a child who was being trampled.
The false reporting, perpetuated by the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, is part of a larger pattern of Hamas trying to undermine and ultimately end GHF. It is no coincidence that this incident occurred during ceasefire negotiations, where Hamas continues to demand that GHF cease operations.
